Learning to fly - for either pleasure or as a career, it all starts with the basic Private Pilots Licence

Make It Happen

How do I become a Pilot?

  • Small propeller airplane parked on runway with yellow line, grassy field, clear blue sky with scattered clouds, and distant trees.

    Dream it.

    Stop dreaming and start flying!

A great way to take the first step into flying is to have an introductory lesson. You will take to the air with a fully qualified instructor who can introduce you to the joys of having the wind beneath your wings. This can be your first step to achieving your dream and will be logged as your first lesson. Once you’ve definitely got the bug, you need to make it happen.

  • View of an aircraft cockpit dashboard with various gauges, switches, and a navigation screen, with a person's hand on the control yoke.

The Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) Course

Learning to fly can be one of the most rewarding things you will ever undertake. It requires commitment and dedication but once you have your licence a whole new world will open up to you.

    Your training will include:
    # A minimum of 40 hours of flight time
    # Qualifying cross-country flight
    # Ground training and 9 written exams in different subjects
    # Radiotelephony exam
    # Flight test

You will also need to obtain a medical certificate.

The time it takes to complete your training is dependent on your focus and perseverance and also other factors, such as weather. However, even when conditions aren’t perfect for flying, there’s always plenty to learn!

Learning to fly is a significant investment of time and effort and we believe that every step of this should be enjoyable – it’s an amazing experience that you’ll never forget
